BILL’S RESTAURANT EQUIPMENT – ONLINE SHOP ONLY

So, What is the Difference Between a Chiller and a Freezer?

If you plan to own a restaurant it is important that you know what restaurant equipment you are going to need in order for you to be able to best run your business. Depending on the kind of restaurant that you plan on opening up, there are a variety of different kinds of items that you are going to need to open up shop. Some of these items could be a freezer, refrigerator, chiller, range, oven, microwave and so on. It is also important that you know what these items are and how they will work for your restaurant.

For example, if you are considering getting a chiller and/or a freezer, you need to know what the difference is between a chiller and a freezer. It is important to the business and the preservation of food. So, let’s focus on the restaurant equipment chillers and freezers.

To begin with when you are considering chilling something and using a chiller, you need to understand that a chiller is a piece of equipment that will bring something to a temperature that will make it extremely cold, however, it will not turn the item into a solid. A freezer on the other hand will take a liquid and turn it into a solid. If you use a chiller for a liquid for example, it is on it’s way to being frozen but does not quite get there since the temperature of a chiller will never get to freezing point of 32 degrees Fahrenheit or 0 degrees Celsius.

Items that are chilled and frozen are going to have different types of uses. Freezing of course is a very effective way to preserve food, whereas chilling will preserve items but not as long as freezing. Both ways will slow down the growth of bacteria but generally freezing will actually stop the grow and even kill it, chilling won’t always kill the bacteria.

Often a chiller will be used to keep liquids and foods at a cold enough temperature that the food won’t spoil during the hours of a restaurants operation. Keeping it at a temperature that will also be tolerable for their customers.

Another difference between a chiller and a freezer is that a freezer is far better for storage restaurant equipment that a chiller. Things that are frozen are easier to store, because items can often time take up less space than items that are in a chiller in a non-frozen state.

Chillers can also be used when a liquid needs to travel through an area and have the heat from it removed. When you have a chilled system for water, the heat energy is transported from within and transported outside of a building or a device. Chillers can also be used as a way to produce chilled water for both consumption as well as for coolant systems where there might be machines that might have a tendency to overheat often.

If you plan to use a chiller in a restaurant, to preserve food, just remember that although they will keep food items from spoiling, they will not be able to keep them free from bacteria for as long as items that are frozen. So, it is important that you know how long certain foods and beverages will keep in a chiller.
